Mini Rugby:

Rugby is for everyone, it is a fantastic game for boys and girls of all abilities who want to have fun, play and learn a great sport in a team environment. As players get older it is more serious, but when they are young it is all about having fun and learning new skills along the way.

The ethos of mini rugby is to foster and develop young players (boys & girls) of all ability in the game of rugby in a safe, non competitive, enjoyable environment through activities which ensure progressive skill development for all participants in line with the IRFU Long Term Player Development (LTPD) pathway, Safeguarding and the Spirit of Rugby.

Mini rugby is played from Under 6's to Under 12's and is played in a non-competitive environment, which means that every child is played in every game. Up to under 12, there is no pressure on players or coaches to win matches, the emphasis is on having fun while learning new skills along the way.

Safety First:

Some parents with no experience of rugby, apart from what they see on television, worry about the physical contact nature of rugby and their child's safety. In Loughrea Rugby Club we promise that your child's safety is our overriding priority. Yes there will be bumps, bangs and knocks, but no more than any other contact sport. We train children how to have fun playing rugby and how to protect themselves while doing so. All our Coaches are Garda vetted and undertake approved IRFU training to the appropriate level before being allowed on the pitch with children. This is to assure high quality of coaching and player safety during training and matches.
